The history of Florida Keys Fish Stories

I’ve been writing Fish Stories, a bi-weekly fishing column in the Key West Citizen and the Florida Keys Free Press for more than14 years.

The stories focus, not only on fishing reports and techniques, but also tell of friendships and relationships made during fishing trips. Many of these trips have resulted in lifelong memories and friendships.

Half of my regular readers are women. They tell me they like the columns for the stories. One woman told me she read three

columns before realizing they were fishing columns. When she showed the column to her husband, they became long-term readers and now spend Sunday coffee times reading the stories together or to each other.

In 2011, I self-published a book called Florida Keys Fish Stories. It’s comprised of 43 of my past-published fishing columns. It was a two-year labor of love. I had to learn the ins and outs of publishing a book, starting with ISBN numbers, page sizes, book formatting, how books are physically made, and how to publish digital versions of a book for Kindle and other digital book-readers.

One of my proudest days was when UPS dropped off an extremely heavy box with the first 30 paperback copies of Florida Keys Fish Stories inside.

I still write my bi-weekly columns and Florida Keys Fish Stories still sells on Amazon and other book retailers.

I love writing, and I love fishing. What could be better?

Please enjoy!
